Humans of thebox

At the junction of strategic thinking and creative execution is thebox, a boutique agency of experts in their fields. To put it bluntly: our crew knows their shit. We know that, while strategy is at the core of what we do, a great brand is a beautiful thing to behold.

thebox team are creative and fearless. We’re proud of who we are and what we do.

We are specialists in our respective fields, but seeing us work together is where our superpower truly lies.

Scott Robinson

Director

If you’ve ever met Scott, you get it.

A character, a creative sage, a disruptor: he’s been called it all.

But over his twenty plus years heading up thebox, Scott’s most enduring qualities are clear in his approach to progressive leadership and his knack for having bloody good ideas.

A natural storyteller with an analytical mind, Scott is a bonafide multidisciplinarian across strategy, technology and creative. Sitting in the centre of this paradigm, Scott leads the specialist team at thebox with a strong focus on culture.

Son of an ad man and a doting mother (“Dawn by name, dawn by nature”), his upbringing wasn’t exactly ordinary. His father, a writer and strategist with a keen interest in organisational culture, often held workshops from the family property, unknowingly (or not) imbuing into Scott the foundations of his future.

Having spent a majority of his childhood bashing out tunes on a piano or lugging around a Eeb Tuba, it’s fair to say that Scott’s first true love was music. He often dreamed of rockstardom – and as a teen his dream (sort of) came true. Between playing bass, writing songs, marketing gigs and negotiating with publican’s, Scott’s band gave him his first taste of creative business – and he liked it.

At age twenty one, with nothing but a car and a healthy dose of bravado to his name, Scott opened the doors to his first agency.

A lot has changed since the turn of the millennium, but Scott continues to stay not only up-to-date but ahead of the pack. His uncanny ability to create solutions to complex commercial and community situations has earned Scott and thebox recognition locally and internationally.

Did you know? While his high school mates were knocking off work experience, Scott was flying to Queensland to assist on television shoots. Lucky? A dash. Determined? You betcha.

Vaughan Ransley

Brand Architect

A consummate artist and technical master, Vaughan seamlessly creates clever and beautiful design that not only looks good, but provides purpose. That’s why we call him the Brand Architect.

Hailing from across the ditch, Vaughan traded Hamilton for London to work on some of the world’s leading brands. When he eventually made it to our shores (with an impressive resume to boot), he joined Perth’s 303 where he specialised in brand and ads.

Joining thebox as an already-revered designer, Vaughan has spent over half his three-decade-long career as our senior creative. Like us, over the years he has grown and evolved his skills and expand his creativity.

He’s been internationally recognised with award-winning brands and campaigns thanks in part to his uncanny ability to convert even the most complex briefs into smart and beautiful design.

Did you know? While studying design, Vaughan spent his nights working at a local agency, laying out real estate newspapers. Forget sitting at a desk twiddling with Photoshop and pressing ‘Print’; we’re talking bromide printing and some very primitive computers.

Dune Haggar

Senior Designer

Our soft-spoken, sharp-tongued design aficionado, Senior Designer Dune specialises in combining artistic sensibilities with tech prowess to produce and edit animation, film and illustration.

Studying Graphics and Media in his native New Zealand, he got his start working with clients across a variety of sectors, including tourism, vehicles and agriculture. Joining the thebox after arriving on our shores, Dune also brought his unique creative ambidexterity across Brand and Campaign to the benefit of our clients.

With his own successful graphic arts background, he truly is exceptional at what he does.

Did you know? Dune was named after Frank Herbert’s 1965 sci-fi novel ‘Dune’, widely regarded as the greatest in its genre… no pressure.

Jayne Schuts

Office Manager

The self-described ‘non creative’ member of our crew, Jayne is our Office Manager aficionado. Sometime us creatives can get a bit carried away, but Jayne’s analytical balance helps keep the ship steady.

To be perfectly frank, she’s the reason we’re able to operate the way that we do.

Working closely with Scott, she oversees all of thebox’s financials and HR requirements, as well as keeping track of his various side hustles.  With a keen eye for detail and the ability to see things others often don’t, her analytical brain keeps us running like a well-oiled machine (most of the time). She’s also really good at remembering important dates, like birthdays and anniversaries. Very important.

Did you know? Born and bred in Busselton, WA, Jayne is a stalwart of the community, volunteering time and effort to local groups and initiatives.
