The Challenge

Waratah Support Centre is a community service organisation based in Bunbury, providing necessary support, counselling and assistance to anyone experiencing sexual assault, abuse or domestic violence. The organisation’s Board expressed a need to market their services to a wider audience and to create greater awareness of their ability to help and support the community in times of need.

The Idea

After 30 years, the current logo was becoming tired and did not truly reflect the organisation’s culture. thebox were commissioned to create a re-brand based on a more modern projection. One that was appropriate and assist in taking Waratah through the future years. The commission included a complete livery and collateral development. It was agreed the name and its icon retained real asset value so it should be sustained, however the flower which was a 1950’s traditional outline etching should be replaced with a more futuristic rendering which created the perception of a modern, efficient service provider.

The Solution

The finished work featured an iconic mosaic take on the Waratah flower. With bold, bright colours, the new brand depicted the message of hope and assistance. The clever treatment of the icon allowed for the broken pieces to come together and evolve in colour while delivering the impression of a Waratah in bloom and opening to the sun. No longer a wallflower but a vibrant and dynamic icon which truly represented the organisation’s passion. This was supported by a full range of livery and collateral. The final work was launched in Bunbury at a cocktail evening and attended by all Waratah personnel, executives and dignitaries. The overwhelming reaction was excitement and the new brand was warmly greeted by all.

The Last Word

Over the years, thebox has been further commissioned to for various other work since the rebrand, including the implementation and supply of all livery and collateral. thebox has also assisted with facilitation and the development of a new website, eNewsletter system and Digital Content Plan.

The Award

thebox were awarded a SILVER Summit Creative 2015 International Award for the Waratah rebrand. The Summit Creative Awards recognise organisations internationally who excel in marketing initiatives.

What They Said

“I was fortunate enough to work with the Jack in the box team to establish a professional and contemporary face for our service. The service profile was looking tired and community engagement was lagging because of it. I found the team to be professional, original in their artwork, creative and sensitive to our organisation’s special needs. The team provided useful feedback and direction and moved the changes to the service and the new look of Waratah in a manner that involved members, where they could absorb changes and feel involved as well as own the outcome. The presentation of the Branding profile created excitement for the future of the organisation and the community involvement has grown because of it. If your service is looking for a professional new look, with great outcomes, you could not go past Jack in the box.”
