The Challenge

In late 2022, Scott had another brainwave…to install a PodCast Studio within the inner sanctum of thebox. Now armed with an amazing space and amazing equipment, the first challenge was…what should we create a PodCast on?

The Idea

Many ideas had been thrown around. The problem was, they all felt a little naff. Often way to focused on what we do and ultimately just felt like one big self promotion. And frankly…who would want to listen to that?

This conversation continued on throughout the first half of 2023 with the pristine studioJ (as it was later crowned) sat dormant – patiently waiting for the right idea to manifest itself. And it did just that in the form of our partnership with the Emergence Creative Festival.

Fuelled by the excitement of seeing the Festival back on the calendar and being an active part of the resurgence, we began to look at ways we could engage with the audience. We wanted something dynamic which would help build the excitement in the lead up to the Festival.

As we began talking to previous ‘Aslumi’, it became obvious that there was this clear bond that was created between those that had been part of the Festival. Something that stuck them together and often was the precursor to them collaborating on projects or creating something new.

The Solution

We wanted to explore this common bond and the ingredients that allowed these people to connect. And so Creative Glue was born, launching with as an Emergence Special and exploding with 10 fully produced episodes in the lead up to the Festival, across the 3 days of the Festival plus a special WrapUp edition.

Each episode was filmed and recorded before being edited in-house to produce an audio and video version of the PodCast which was pushed to YouTube, Spotify and Apple PodCast.

Hosted by our own Scott Robinson, each episode explored the connection between the guests and often Scott himself, having been involved in the foundation of Emergence and the Creative Corner.

The Last Word

We developed a stand alone brand which was used for all promotion and could be seen adorning the shirts of the crew at the Festival as they chase voxpops across the whole Festival. It’s since been animated and features on the introduction of each episode.

In addition, thebox collaborated with Network Partners ‘Panda Candy’ to develop the catchy theme music that can be heard on each episode. It’s a real earworm!

Season 2 launched in June 2024 on the back of a highly successful launch in early 2024 for Season 1. Below you can see a range of stats that were extracted at the end of the Emergence Creative Festival in May 2024.

The PodCast continues to explore creative collaborations and the ingredients that makes creatives work. Expanding well beyond the ‘Aslumni’ of Emergence, the Podcast takes you across the globe to meet with extraordinary creatives from a wide and diverse array of creative industries.
