What on earth
More than just switching our thinking
Have you ever wanted to make a difference but didn’t know how? Have you ever wanted to be a part of something that created an impact bigger than yourself? How about a desire to install change that would have an ever lasting effect on today and everyday forward? Well you can…
It’s simple really. It’s called Earth Hour. Some of you may have heard about it before. It’s a global event across over 800 cities in 80 countries and this year it will provide you with the chance to VOTE EARTH. That’s right, by participating in Earth Hour 2009, you’ll be voting Earth over Global Warming. This isn’t just some ‘ feel good‘ ballot either. This vote will form part of the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen where the organisers are hoping to get 1 million votes to convince world leaders to take action against global warming.
There are Earth Hour events being held everywhere and to play our part, we have decided to support the local event here in Busselton. ‘ Above Water‘, a community group dedicated to the preservation of the planet, have setup an Earth Hour event in the ArtGeo Courthouse Courtyard on Saturday 28th March – the official date of Earth Hour.
Earth Hour itself starts at 8:30pm but the event will kick off at 7:30pm with live entertainment powered by a unique solar trailer. This solar trailer will also provide the power for a movie across Earth Hour.
Even if you can’t make it to the event, there are still ways to participate. At home, simply turn off all non-essential items such as lights, electrical equipment etc from 8:30 – 9:30pm. Businesses are encouraged to do the same. We’ll be doing our bit here at Jack in the box with the familiar orange hue of our ‘box’ in the front reception been turned off for the entire weekend.
Business’ within Busselton can also be involved with the local event by registering their details with Above Water (see details below) and being mentioned in an up coming advertisement in the Busselton Dunsborough Mail.
You can also register as an individual or as an organisation on the official Earth Hour site | www.earthhour.org
This is more than just about switching your thinking and being more conscious about the effects we have on the environment we live in, it’s about being part of a bigger change. A global change.
Encourage others.
Be a part of something.
Make a difference.
