a-whole-new-world

It’s certainly not news that I’m into ‘new toys’. I’ve been accused of being a habitual ‘early adopter’ most of my life. The Oculus Rift isn’t really news either. Given it’s been around in development form since 2012 and was bought by Facebook over 12 months ago, it’s become the leader in Virtual Reality.

With its impending ‘consumer’ release in early 2016, excitement around the possibilities of this product is growing daily.

So what has my propensity for new toys and these funky looking goggles have to do with this month’s topic ofTourism? I’m glad you asked.

At the heart of what we do is innovation. It’s the most exciting part of the job. We’re constantly on the lookout for new ways to engage with people. How different mediums and mechanisms can assist in facilitating that engagement. And how we can be surprising and unexpected to both the market and our clients.

The team at Destination British Columbia are people that see the world the same way we do… literally.

While most will associate the Oculus Rift with its distinct link to gaming, it has an incredibly diverse range of uses. When it came to allowing people to explore the wonders of British Columbia, it became the doorway to travel beyond your own reality and see their backyard from your very own lounge room.

Virtual Reality (VR) is not just about ‘watching’. It’s about interactivity. So you don’t just ‘see’ what British Columbia has to offer… you can actually choose!

It’s incredible.

Not only is it a stunning location but the concept is just so immersive. You literally feel like you’re there.

Take a look at the video that Destination British Columbia made which demonstrates the behind the scenes ‘making of’ the incredible VR experience they call “The Wild Within”.

While you’re doing that, I’ll be getting the drone and the cameras ready to go…
